About Alan
I am an experienced counsellor with more than 800 hours of practice working with a wide range of issues. These include stress, anxiety, relationship issues, and addictions. In 2015, I qualified as a supervisor and have experience guiding student counsellors through their practice. Having previously worked at a voluntary organisation in Oswestry for seven years, I now have a private practice in Ellesmere.
Student Counsellors
Whether gaining their qualification through a diploma or a degree, student counsellors have a lot on their plate. I’ve been there myself and I know how difficult it is to balance studying, gaining the practice hours needed to qualify as well as any career and family commitments.
When you choose my supervision service, I will be committed to your professional development and will assist you in their practice. Using, Shohet and Hawkins’ Seven-Eyed Model, the accepted leading supervision model in the United Kingdom, I provide a relaxed but authoritative service. Testimonials are available if required.
My Philosophy
Supervision is not just a mandatory requirement but, in my experience, an enjoyable and beneficial one.
I see my role as a bridge between theory and practice. The theory aspect will be provided by the student counsellors’ training provider, while my responsibility is to make relevant the theory taught and how it applies to the student counsellors’ practice.
The first duty of a counselling supervisor is towards the clients, to achieve this the student counsellor has to feel comfortable in your practice.
Qualified Counsellors
I also offer a supervision service to qualified counsellors. As counsellors, we are always learning and coming across different presentations, so this service is more of a “sounding board” for more experienced mentees.
